Mesh Heads

Here you get the overview of mesh heads by drum-tec, Roland, Remo, ATV and Aquarian.

We offer the right mesh head for your bass drum, kick drum or kick pad, for your E-Drum snare pad and for your tom pads, but also smaller sizes for the drum-tec eBans or the diabolo Dual Zone FX pad.

You can choose between single layer, double layer and triple layer mesh heads.

What are 1-ply mesh heads?

1-ply mesh heads like the drum-tec design series have a strong rebound and are very quiet. They are suitable for very quiet practicing and give a good trigger response. A special feature is the 1-ply drum-tec pro meshhead made of thicker material. It has a higher inherent volume and a very authentic rebound.

What are 2-ply mesh heads?

2-ply mesh heads have a moderate inherent noise level with best trigger characteristics and very good rebound. Our drum-tec design mesh heads are a good choice if you are looking for durable double-layered mesh heads.

What are 3-ply mesh heads?

The 3 layers of the drum-tec real feel series offer you a uniquely authentic feel at low noise levels and a perfect triggering result. The real feel mesh heads are also extremely durable.

What is rebound?

Rebound is the force with which your stick bounces off the surface of the head when you hit it.

Mesh Heads for Acoustic Drums

You can also use mesh heads to turn your acoustic kit into a quiet practice kit. The air-permeable synthetic mesh heads produce little or no resonant vibration. You only hear the impact of your stick on the nylon fiber surface.

For Acoustic Design Electronic Drums with the shell dimensions of acoustic drums, single ply nylon heads in black and white also make great resonator heads for the ultimate look of your Real Size shells.

The history of Mesh Heads

In the first electronic drums, the heads were made of plastic and later rubber, as on the legendary Simmons E-Drums. When Electronic Drum technology was less advanced, these plastic and rubber pads provided the best trigger characteristics.

However, rubber and especially plastic pads were relatively noisy and the playing feel was often very different from acoustic drums. Nylon or synthetic fiber fabric heads are now used by almost all E-Drum manufacturers. They offer the functionality and feel of acoustic drums.

A lot has been done with fabric drumheads, too! In the early days, they were much simpler than today. Visually, some models were not unlike a fly screen.

Current mesh skins are produced much finer mesh and can create a very authentic feel today.

Which sticks are suitable for mesh heads?

Mesh heads can be played with any type of drum stick. You should make sure that the sticks have a plain surface.

Heavily worn sticks could damage the mesh structure of the mesh head due to their fine splinters. Therefore, make sure that your sticks are in good condition.

What is a Mesh Head Pad?

A mesh head pad is a drum or an E-Drum that is covered with a mesh skin. It can be an acoustic drum, which is very quiet with the mesh head, making it great for practicing. Mainly, the drums of electronic drums, the E-Drums, are called mesh head pads. They can be flat or acoustic design to look like real drum shells.

Are mesh heads quiet?

On the Electronic Drums with Acoustic Design Shells, the air-permeable mesh structure of the mesh heads prevents the shell from making a sound of its own. Mesh Heads are also much quieter on a conventional drum set than normal drum heads.

How expensive are Mesh Heads?

At drum-tec you will find mesh heads that offer you very good quality for a reasonable price.

How long do Mesh Heads last?

With a good product like the drum-tec design Mesh Head you will have many years of fun if you play it with good drumsticks.
