The 8" Pads of Yamaha have a new type of playing surfaces, which is silicon-based, providing an authentic play feeling with best Trigger-characteristics and a slight Volume-development. This new material is made of so-called "Textured Cellular Silicone". These Yamaha silicone Pads are considerably more silent than usual Pads made of rubber.
The Yamaha XP80 is a 3-zone Pad, and it therefore enables the Drummer to do (in addition to the common-sound in the center of the Pad) Rimshots or Rimclicks respectively.
However, the Yamaha XP Pads with 3 Zones can only be used at Yamaha DTX sound modules.
