Meinl Byzance 18" Vintage Medium Sand Crash

The Meinl Sand Ride is a completely new development and expands the Byzance series with another spectacular cymbal. Benny Greb tested countless prototypes and worked for over a year with Meinl's R&D department on this unique cymbal. The extreme demands Benny places on his ride cymbal were a real challenge for Meinl's cymbal smiths. It was meant to deliver a warm, soft stick sound like a 30-year-old vintage cymbal, while still offering a clear yet very delicate stick definition and a strong, clearly pronounced bell. The Sand Ride combines all of these sounds. The top side of the hand-hammered cymbal is sandblasted, creating this uniquely warm tone. The cymbal is lathed only on about two thirds of the underside, and a significant amount of material is removed in that area. As a result, the cymbal remains considerably thicker at the outer edge and at the bell, providing a clear and powerful sound.
