What are low noise cymbals and what are they made for?
Low noise cymbals offer you the sound characteristics, feel and rebound of classic acoustic cymbals. They are made of the same alloys and materials. But they are significantly quieter. This is achieved by countless symmetrically arranged holes in the cymbal body. The resulting reduced mass develops less volume. Low noise cymbals are great for practicing, jamming and smaller gigs.
… einer alternative zum thema lautstärke und (tock, tock, tock) gummipads bin ich auf die low noise idee gestoßen. dazu hatte ich vorab noch keinerlei praktische erfahrung gehabt. also bei drum tec bestellt – schnell geliefert bekommen und dann der erste eindruck: was für ein mist – das ist doch einfach viel zu leise und zurück damit …
… aber nach ein paar weiteren tests wurde mir bewußt, wie klar und sauber diese leisen töne doch eigentlich rüberkommen. das probierte ich somit “live“ in einem gospel-chor und jazz-projekt aus (beides mit akustik drums!). und siehe da – es funktioniert wirklich einwandfrei – inklusive einer glasklaren “ride-tonalität“ (gefühlt meinem wesentlich “lauteren“ flatride ebenbürtig).
also – wer sich nicht unbedingt zur “trash-bang-300 bpm-fraktion“ zählt – sollte das wirklich mal als eine “leisere“ spielalternative antesten …
